Histology pictures have been reorganized to facilitate their use and, thanks to Philippe Lagacé-Wiens and Ibrahima Diallo from the Collège Universitaire de St-Boniface, french descriptions have been added.

A surge of activity. AltaVista has finally indexed all pages, and this has brought us numerous visitors from there, or from Yahoo (which utilizes the same database).

There are now 3375 items in the image base, and more than 25,000 images have been downloaded to date. The 426 registered users say that BIODIDAC material is seen by more than 143,700 students this year.

A minor update. We now run under ColdFusion 3.01 and the data base has been converted to Access 97.

BIODIDAC has a new web server, a Pentium Pro 200 MHz with 64 Mb of RAM. It runs under Windows NT 4.0, IIS 3.0, and Cold Fusion 2.0. The layout of the pages has changed, performance and stability is better, and bank elements should rapidly be indexed by search engines now that the dynamic pages can be searched by spiders and robots.

There are now 2755 elements in the image base. More than 7400 transfers of images have been made to date. Non-zoology material is appearing slowly on the server (Plantae , Bacteria , Fungi ). Descriptions and much more to come. Photos of insects from the Department of Biology, University of Alberta are finally available.

The BIODIDAC web site now runs under Purveyor.

The beta test period is over, for better or worse, all traffic now goes to the new server. It is a 90MHz Pentium with 32MB of RAM running Windows NT 3.51.

Files in the CorelDraw format (.cdr) are now correctly downloaded to most clients. Thanks to Mamadou Diallo for finding this big bug.

The new server is operational and opened to users to test it. The catalog will now always be up to date because it is automatically generated directly from the database. Moreover, it will now be possible to search by keywords. The days of the Linux server are ending. It will be retired as soon as the new server has proved its worth

Images produced this summer is incorporated in the data bank that now contains 2231 elements. Material on Chordata, Mollusca, Platyhelminthes, Protozoa, Cnidaria, and Hemichordata has been considerably updated.
